Domenico Mario Nuti 1937-2020

It is with great sadness that I have to inform of the death of Domenico Mario Nuti who passed away just before Christmas in Italy.

EACES lost a former president, a great intellectual and a leading figure in comparative economic studies. In addition to his academic contributions he also played an important role as an economic policy advisor, especially for the European Commission and in Poland – a country he was closely attached to since he was a student of Michal Kalecki and Oskar Lange in Warsaw in the early 1960s. It was also in Warsaw that Mario gave one of his last presentations on „Varieties of Socialism“ in fall 2018 at the EACES conference.

The association dedicated a Festschrift to Mario on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2007:
Saul Estrin, Grzegorz W. Kolodko and Milica Uvalic (eds), Transition and Beyond – Essays in Honor of Mario Nuti, Palgrave Macmillan, 2007.
The introduction, authored by the three editors, surveys his work and also gives insights into the life of an outstanding member of the academic community.
